Most new agencies arrive with the same claim: more creative, more strategic, more integrated. Those words have been polished until they mean almost nothing. A challenger has a more useful advantage: it can admit the obvious. The incumbent exists. The familiar option already occupies the first slot in the buyer's mind. So the job is not to pretend that slot is empty. It is to make the next decision more interesting.
The second slot can be sharper
Being the default can make a business broad, cautious and expensive. Being the challenger creates a different discipline. Every proposal has to earn attention. Every recommendation has to justify itself. Every piece of work has to make switching feel worth the effort.
That is not an excuse to be loud for the sake of it. Challenger positioning works when the product underneath it is genuinely useful. The point of a provocative name is to create a memory. The job of the agency is to make that memory credible.
Do not imitate the leader
A second choice that behaves exactly like the first choice is just a cheaper substitute. The more interesting move is to change the basis of comparison. Fewer layers. Senior attention. Faster exploration. A wider use of technology. More visible accountability.
Segunda Escolha starts there. We do not need to be the automatic choice. We need to be the choice that earns a serious second look through sharper thinking, faster execution and work people can actually use.
